My house is full of noise. Children stomp through in various states of coming and going, and all of the accouterments of having children follows suit. We’re a gadget family, so in addition to the general homey sounds of laughter and voices, there is the sound of mommy clicking away at a keyboard, music streaming on Spotify, and the sound of Angry Birds chirping from the Kindle. One of the standby noises are notifications from my husband’s iPod Touch 4th generation.
I bought him the iPod to replace an old Mp3 player that he had worn out. It was a Father’s Day present three years ago and he has never looked back once, becoming instead an instant Apple convert. He’s a take-tech-as-it-comes sort of fella and has specific needs from his device. Unlike me, a fully Android girl, he likes the simple functions of his iPod. Whereas I use a single device for everything from phone calls, email, to streaming movies and music, he likes to keep his worlds separate. He wants his phone away from his fun.
In the years since he has become a convert to the Apple nerd-corp, we have outfitted him with state-of-the-art noise cancelling headphones and a port to sync his iPod content to his car stereo. He uses it first thing in the morning to read headlines and get weather reports, and if anything happens throughout the day that warrants closer inspection (ESPN is apparently very important), he has his iPod set up to chime his notification ringtones. It’s a match made in geek heaven and an investment I would make a thousand times over for someone who wants a one stop shop for news and entertainment without the interruptions of business.
I love stories, science, gadgets and gizmos. If I had early ambition, I would have aimed myself at the stars but I chose to write about them instead. I've been making stories since I was a kid and, more importantly, I've been listening to other people's stories. Best job ever.
